What counts as EXIF
EXIF is the oldest and most widespread metadata block: exposure triangle values, white balance, flash state, orientation, date/time, owner fields and — most sensitive — precise GPS coordinates. Modern phones populate all of it automatically.
How this cleaner handles EXIF
In JPEG files the entire APP1 Exif segment is removed at the byte level. In PNGs the eXIf chunk goes. WebP EXIF chunks are deleted and container flags corrected. Pixel data is copied unchanged, so there is no re-compression and no quality loss.
Keep some EXIF?
Selling gear or shooting stock? Some buyers want camera settings intact. Use the inject camera EXIF option after cleaning to append neutral placeholder fields (generic make/model/date) instead of your real ones.
