What this tool does
It removes metadata — C2PA, XMP, EXIF, IPTC and PNG text chunks — from files you process locally, and verifies the result is clean.
What it cannot do
- Pixel watermarks (e.g., SynthID) live inside image data, not metadata. No metadata utility can alter them.
- Visual classifiers judge the picture itself; a perfectly clean file can still be flagged by one.
- Markers in video containers (MP4 C2PA) require re-encoding the video; stills-only cleaning won’t touch them.
- Guarantees: platforms change detection constantly. Absence of a label tomorrow is never promised.
Legal responsibility is yours
Editing metadata on files you own is broadly permitted, but publishing may be governed by platform terms, advertising standards and AI-disclosure regimes such as the EU AI Act. Where disclosure is legally required for AI-generated content, removing metadata does not create an exemption. This tool performs file operations; it offers no legal advice.
